November 2005
We took a two-week trip to Arizona this month spending a week each in Phoenix and Tucson. During the trip we visited Mesa Verde National Park, Canyon de Chelly National Monument, Walnut Canyon National Monument, Montezuma’s Castle National Monument, Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, and Saguaro National Park. In Phoenix, Michelle and Cooper had a fun time at the Phoenix Zoo, Sesame Street - The Body exhibit at the Arizona Science Center, and the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. In Tucson we spent time at the Reid Park Zoo and Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. On November 25th Cooper was playing in the other room and he said "Mom can you come here for a second? I'd like to have a word with you." On November 30th Cooper had a short procedure called a frenectomy. Cooper was born tongue-tied. He could not stick his tongue out far enough to lick his lips well and his speech, bite, and oral hygiene were being affected. The doctor clipped the piece of skin under his tongue. Everything works much better now and Cooper's speech is getting better.

Happy to be home from the long trip. On the drive back we passed into New Mexico. Every ten minutes Cooper would ask us if we were still in New Mexico. After a while he took a nap for a couple of hours. When he woke up he groggily asked "Are we still in the United States?" We were still in New Mexico.
