Glacier National Park |

May / June 2006 (Week 1) |
Michelle, Cooper and I are having a great time in Glacier National Park. We've been here about a week and are enjoying amazing weather. If you would like to get ahold of us simply call our home (Colorado) number.
We'll post more pictures periodically.
We're staying at Park Headquarters near West Glacier, Montana in park housing.
It is actually very nice. Plenty of deer around.
We have a three bedroom house so if you care to join us please let us know...
Outside of our house is the start of a bike path. Cooper is really enjoying going for bike
rides and, after a week, said it is what he has enjoyed the most.

The other end of the bike path ends up at Lake McDonald shown here at Apgar Village.

Near the other end of Lake McDonald, Cooper and Michelle go to "Rocky Beach" ("Beaches
are usually made of sand but this has rocks. I'll call it Rocky Beach")
Cooper throws rocks in the water for hours on end (literally) while Michelle reads.
The water is snow melt but Cooper gets in and actually sits down. He wanted
Michelle to join him. She said it was too cold. He replied "I'll throw some hot rocks in to
warm it up for you." One day on the beach after lunch Cooper said
"This is the life...throwing rocks in the water...eating lunch on the beach..."

Hiking to Avalanche Lake. This is a 4.5 mile hike roundtrip. The day started nice and sunny
but ended gray and rainy. This was our first bad weather all week.

Avalanche Lake
Going-to-the-Sun Road is not open yet. The section from West Glacier to Avalanche Creek is open to car traffic.
Beyond Avalanche Creek the road is open to foot and bike traffic for another 6-8 miles or so. We borrowed
a tow-behind bike for Cooper and took a 10-mile bike ride (round-trip) up the road. We rode from Avalanche Creek
to the tunnel near The Loop. Some good climbs and fast downhills. Cooper loved going fast. The ride was beautiful.
Lots of people were on the road. Really a nice way to see the park.

View from the tunnel looking down valley.
We saw butterflies all over the place during our ride. At one stop butterflies were
landing on my clothes. One landed on my hand. We took out the camera
to take a picture and another landed on my other hand.
