Day 18: Florence to Rome
Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain,
Pantheon, and more
We took a train from Florence to Rome today, checked into our apartment, and then took an evening walking tour through Rome.
Riding the metro
Spanish Steps
Spanish Steps is a bit of a misnomer. Apparently, these were built by France to get access to the church at the top of the hill. The steps start from the Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Square) and lead to Trinita dei Monti. Their name came from the nearby Spanish flag being flown on the Spanish Embassy.
Column of the Immaculate Conception Piazza Mignanelli
Largo di Torre Argentina Julius Caesar was assassinated here It is a cat sanctuary now - home to ~350 cats!
Bernini's Elephant and Obelisk Piazza della Minerva
Pantheon
We were not able to enter the Pantheon during this walking tour so we'll come back later to see the inside.
Trevi Fountain
We did not expect to enjoy this so much. It is absolutely beautiful. There is something special about seeing something grand in a smaller space.
