I surprised Michelle with a trip to the Canadian Rockies and proposed to her in Banff in February 1997.  The setting was beautiful - especially since it snowed for 20 hours straight while we were there.  We bathed in outdoor hot springs while it was snowing, learned to ski at Lake Louise, took a horse drawn sleigh ride on the frozen Bow River (where I proposed), took an ice canyon hike, and ice skated on the frozen Lake Louise each evening after dinner.  We stayed at Chateau Lake Louise which was stunning.  It is a beautiful railroad lodge set against a glacier fed lake with mountains rising on three sides.
